TRARALGON Greyhound Racing Club Manager Hector Caruana paid a visit to local group Yallambee Aged Care on Thursday afternoon, with one of his four legged friends right there on his tail.
Much to the delight of residents, nine-year-old Buster (pictured above with a resident) wandered around and charmed his way through the room.
Mr Caruana visited the centre following The Great Chase event hosted by his club where the aged care facility received $650.
Yallambee was one of three community organisations from Traralgon to take home prize money at the September event.
Moe Life Skills Community Centre and Benetas Dalkeith Hostel also received $650.
A spokesperson from Yallambee said the money would most likely go towards new camera equipment.
“We will get a brand-new camera and stand for the residents, so when we have special events we can set it up in the corner so they can watch it back,” the spokesperson said.
For the Moe Life Skills centre, the money is still the topic of conversation but may go towards a barbecue to be part of a healthy cooking program to teach independent living.
Traralgon greyhound club was one of many greyhound clubs throughout the state to be part of the community campaign.
The Great Chase, which has been running for more than 10 years and has raised more than $500,000 for local community groups, culminated in a final at The Meadows on Wednesday October 19 where eight groups were randomly chosen to be aligned with a greyhound in the main race.
Throughout this year’s series, close to a hundred community groups enjoyed a great day out with entertainment, games, lunches, gifts and cheering on greyhounds allocated to their groups for the chance to share in more than $20,000 in prize money.
A further $10,000 is up for grabs for the winner of the finale as well as $2000 for every other group selected to be in the race.
