General
The Glenview Park Racing Complex is owned by
the
Latrobe
City
and was designed and developed for the racing
sport of gallopers, trotters and greyhounds.
The first official greyhound race meeting at the
Complex was held on
Thursday 28
th June 1973
.
The greyhound track was designed to provide two circular ends with parabolic
curves either side which has provided safe racing conditions with little risk of injury to
greyhounds.
Races are conducted over 298, 513, 658 and 730 metres.
The lure is driven by an electric motor remotely controlled from the top
floor of the tower above the grandstand.
The starting boxes are electrically tripped and photo finish results are also
taken from the tower.
The Kennel Complex at the southern end of the Complex is mechanically
ventilated and operations within the kennels may be viewed by the public at the southern end of the
building.
On 27th November, 2006 a Wheel Chair lift was installed on the grandstand
steps. This state of the art equipment has made Glenview Park user friendly for the disabled
and elderly patrons.
