Review Wednesday night 24th December

Even Santa and his reindeers would have been at full stretch to keep up with the flying "Wot Price Pink", at the Xmas eve meeting of the Traralgon Greyhound Racing Club.

Trained at Darnum, in West Gippsland by President of the Warragul Greyhound Club, Garry Allen, the younger brother of Great Chase winner, Wot Price Hoarold smashed the 658m track record, and the 3 splits along the way.

"Pink" sang a merry tune stopping the clock for the record in 38.63 and sectionals of 13.16, 25.03, 13.60.

His winning margin was 12 and a half lengths over Patch of Pedro and Galloping Bessie.

Wot Price Pink is a coming Melbourne Winner.

Judge could not split Alley's Pride and Izzy Lee in the Opening event - declaring a dead heat, with She's A Dalton in Third place.

Joe Sultana at Newborough putting the polish on Alley's Pride and Paul Hammerstein made the trip all the way from Ararat to share the spoils in 17.34 for the 298m.

Couldn't wipe the smile off the face of Rachael Busuttil after races 2 and 3 - leading in a double.  The Moe based trainer scored with Elswyk Lass who was injured at the Friday Traralgon meeting, but re-vetted the night before this meeting to score by 5 lengths in the Maiden and the good time of 17.02.  Kennelmate, Indi Spirit breaking her duck over the 513m journey.

Denison trainer, Samantha McKay has Lika Fresian racing in great style at the moment - capped off with an easy win in the grade 5 by over 5 lengths in 30 seconds dead.  Greyhound was coming off 3 successive placings at Sandown Park, and will probally head back to the "Big Smoke" in the next few weeks.

Good local wins on the card to Old Zambezi in a heat of the 298m for morwell mentor Alex Cooper and Hello Zip for Morwell Compatriot, Chris Sinclair.

Review 4th December

Highly promising stayer, Bordain led all the way to pocket the $5000 first prize in Greyhound Racing Victoria's distance vic bonus series, at Thursday's Traralgon Greyhound Meeting.

Jumping from the cherry - son of Premier Fantasy - Trendy La Maze scored by over 7 lengths from Real Screamer, and Wait on Sadie, for Reservoir owner/trainer Max Wintle.

Time for the 658m a good 38.86 and an extra $800 to Max for the Gobis Bonus.

The Promising Elite Ethel returned to her best form, after an injury to score a strong win in a grade 5 heat over the 513m.  Off the scene for over 3 months, "Ethel" led all the way to defeat Bomber Bruce, with a dead heat for third between Fullout Boy, and Fly Wheel Shazza in a time of 30.08.  Winner prepared at Rosedale (a haven for greyhound trainers) by Lisa Evans.

Punter's regarded Hurricane Sphinx a special in the first leg of the quaddie but the favorite was worried out of the prize by Shanlyn Banjo - Best backed runner in the race - scoring by a neck in 30.02 for the houndog syn. and garfield trainer, Shannon Larsen.

Best time of the day was recorded by Snow Prince (29.76) in winning a heat of the grade 5, for Alberton west mentor, Bev Proctor, and more wins are in store. 

Preview Thursday Twilight 4th December.

$7,000 Greyhound Racing Victoria Distance final will highlight TAB Racing, at Glenview Park, Traralgon - this Thursday.

First of 10 events to fly from 3.54pm.

Fast Bond, for Devon Meadows trainer Marlene Schmidt broke the 658 metre track record in a heat of the Vic bonus series and can collect the winners purse of $5,000 in the final.  Best local hope, Smurf's Il Divo for Carol Tabone at Nambrok.

Tanjil South trainer, Peter Giles can provided the best bets on the card with Pure Elle in race 3, and Hurricane Sphinx in the first leg of the quaddie.

Daily double selections - 1 and 3 with 1 and 3.

Review Friday Twilight November 21st.

Some excellent times were recorded at last Friday's twilight Traralgon Greyhound Meeting.  Heading the charge was the Brilliant, Spence's Shadow - stopping the clock at 29.72 for the 513m in winning the fast class Free For All by over 4 lengths from Teena Waves and Akina Fire.  Time was less than 4 lengths outhside track record.

18 Wins and 16 placings from just the 59 starts now for Spence's Shadow and close to $40,000 in stakes.   Win for Tanjil South trainer Peter Giles was a double.   Winning the first leg of the quaddie with the $22 chance - Boston's Element.

Great Finish to the 298 metre special event, Judge Sandra Collins who won the grade 5 final on the night with Ticoran Kid could not separate Sixty Four, for Traralgon Committeeman, Don Hill and Shockmount for Morwell trainer, Charlie Spiteri.  Wonder if the guys saved? as they waited for photo?

Preview 21st November

Two Gobis finals that carry an extra $800 in prize smoney will highlight a good card of TAB twilight greyhound racing - this Friday at the Glenview Park Complex, Traralgon.

First of 10 events to fly from 3.49 and punters can start with Desert Tornado for Lang Lang trainer Pat Ryan.

Best bet could be Unique Daisy in race 4 prepared at Newborough by Lauren Gorman and Keep Cool for Paul Anderton in race 7.

Daily Double - 1 and 8 into 1 and 5.

There's also a Sunday card of greyhound racing at Traralgon from around 11am, with free admission and book maker on course.

Preview 31st October

Glenview Park, Traralgon complex looks in great shape for a big weekend - twilight greyhound racing Friday and horse racing Saturday.

Traralgon Greyhound card boasts 10 races from 3:47pm and again Tanjil South trainer Peter Giles could equial his 4 winners at last weeks program.

Kennel can provide the best each way bet with Misty Sparks from the red trap in race 2.

Each way value with Mr. Streetwise for Morwell's, Andrew Papp in race 9.

Daily Double Selections - 1 and 4 into 1 and 8.

Review Friday 24th October

In case you're not aware - it is cups time?

And the "Cups King" of greyhound racing - Tanjil South's Peter Giles collected his own "Quaddie", at Friday's Traralgon Greyhound meeting.  The guru has won just about every major race on the calendar - including the Melbourne and Traralgon Cups.

Kennel started the onslaught with Jay O'mac winning a semi final of the rich Gobis Maiden series - in the best time of the day for the 513 metres (29.90).

Pee Kai made it 4 on the trot by Gum - winning race 6 in 30.10.

Cracked Ice followed in the next and Wait On Cooper won the last by over 6 lengths in an excellent 29.94.

Biggest winning margin on the card was recorded by Surf On Bye also in a semi of the maiden series - winning by 14 lengths in 30.14 for Beaconsfield trainer, Paul Presutto.  Greyhound had been placed at his first 3 starts and will be hard to hold out in the final.

Review Friday 17th October

TAB twilight greyhound racing, at Glenview Park, Traralgon on Friday featured heats of Greyhound Racing Victoria Bonus Maiden Series and looks to have unearthed some promising youngsters.

Diamond Creek trainer, Ray Shields produced litter brothers, Oval Express and Adode for big wins.  Sons of Pure Octane - Twisted Teddy running the 513m in 30.32 and 30.03 respectively.

Best of the day run was produced by Republican, stopping the clock at 29.89 in heat 2 for Junction Village based Rod McRae, who also scored with kennel mate, Professor Tom.

Another Impressive heat winner - Kreuzer Keats for Carlton fans and Cardinia trainer John Adlam in 29.94.

Pure Inspiration also impressive in winning his hear by over 9 lengths in 29.92 for Cranbourne based Darren McDonald.

The Free for all class event was victory for hot favourite, Jeddy Boy and Tooradin trainer, Stan Ralph.  The win by almost 6 lengths in a good 29.96 took Jeddy Boy's stake earning to over $32,000

Review Friday 10th October

Great crowd at Friday's Traralgon Greyhound meeting - For the races and the monster auction that followed with excellent success.

The move to a new greyhound property at Devon Meadows has paid dividends for Paul Anderton.  His charges won 4 of the 10 races on the Program.

Lightly raced Reckless Surfer starting it all off in the Maiden.  Cool and Easy winning the mixed by almost 6 lengths, in a brilliant 29.77 for the 513 metres.  Hot Puzzle made it 6 wins from her last 7 starts when she scored a narrow victory in the Gobis Free For All, and Blue Gunner - who got a start as a reserve in the grade 5 final over the short made up the quaret at odds of $18.

First Starter, Inferno Master led all the way to score in the opening event - maiden 513 metres by over 3 lengths.  Bianca Whitford at Yarram puts the polish on the dog, for the Whitford syn, and more wins are in store.

Rob Winter and the boys from denison, near heyfield did a war dance when their charge, Uno Ethal won race 3.

Best Bet of the card - Classic Blonde duly saluted in race 7 - grade 5 over the 513 metres.  Son of Big Daddy Cool crashed his way to the front going out of the straight and scored by over 6 lengths to make it 5 wins from just the 6 starts for Pearcedale trainer, Engin Gemci.

Preview Friday Twilight 5th September

Just one week away from the Rich Group 2 Traralgon Greyhound Cup series, and many top trainers taking the chance this Friday to put their charges around the Glenview Park Complex.

Leading mentor, Darren McDonald expected to win 2 legs of the Traralgon Quaddie with Hold On Monaro and Witch Pirate.

Devon Meadows based Paul Anderton also keen to win the Cup, and Burning Fuse his best chance in race 6.

German Exchange Students See Their First Greyhound Race 22nd August.

German Exchange Students currently based in the Latrobe Valley saw their first greyhound race - at Friday's Traralgon Race Meeting.

The 8 Students are staying close to the Glenview Park Complex and during the week were fascinated by what they saw, so much so that a student represenative asked Traralgon CEO, Martin Nicol if they could attend the race meeting.

That they did and were photographed on the track with Bev Beesley and her charge, "Holy Thunder" - after they won the GOBIS greade Five Final.

Some terrific wins over the 298 metres during the night.

Rellim Rosie won the Maiden Final in a brilliant 16.96, by over 6 lengths for Darnum trainer, Louise Allen.  Dan Flack scored by 5 lengths in the Mixed, stopping the clock at 16.97, for David Crawford at Pearcedale. And Mr. Streetwise at odds of $18 won the Free For All in 17.14 for Morwell trainer, Andrew Papp.

Traralgar based, John Rohan saw his namesake - Rohan blast away punters in race 2 when Rohan scored a good win in 30.41 and at odds of $21.

Traralgon Greyhounds race for the Queen Mother & Breast Cancer Research 8th August

A top crowd attended a special Traralgon Greyhound meeting on Friday.

Whilst the special feature was the $6,000 final of the Castle of Mey Trophy - in memory of the Queen Mother, and sanctioned by the Royal Family - it was also "Go the Pink" day.

Club decided to give $100 to every winner from Box 8 (The pink box) to go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

There were 2 - Remo Mako for Robert Colpoys at Bass and Sixty Four, for Traralgon's Don Hill.

To add to the great afternoon - the restraunt and lounge areas were covered in pink balloons and ribbons.

After Spences Shadow had a narrow win in the Castle of Mey for Tanjil South's Peter Giles in a brilliant 29.82 - son Michael, on behalf of the Giles Family threw in another $200.

Trainers, David Crawford who won his 24th Race with Dark Secret at the meeting and Don Hill who scored with Sixty Four donated $100 each.

Robyn Thorburn a tireless worker in the kennels also donated $100.

CEO, Martin Nicol at the end of the meeting did a quick whip around, and that - together with a canvass of the committee will lead to $1,000 going to help cancer research.

And a good time was had by all.

BIG NIGHT FOR THE GILES KENNELS FRIDAY 18TH JULY

Tanjil South Trainer, Peter Giles landed a treble, at Friday's traralgon twilight greyhound meeting.

The kennel got in early with the very wet conditions - winning with maiden performer, Big Storm in the opening event, Hot Zippin Lady scored over the 298m in race 3 and Fort Bragg followed in the next for owner, Peter Bellamy.

Drouin based, Sandra Reed produced Mandolin Magic to play the right tune in the Maiden, at her second start on the track.

Quaddie takers were bowled over early when Cool Mitch led all the way in the first leg, for Keysborough mentor, Geoff Mitchell ($9) and Nat's Rose in the second leg for Denis and Nicole Brown at Heyfield ($18).

King Puzzle took the third leg in 30.36 for the 513m for Paul Anderton at Bunyip and final leg - Gobis grade 5 final was a win for the favourite, time goes for Karen Leek in 30.45.

Quaddie paid a handsome $7,170 for the dollar.

Final 2 races over the 298m were wins for Hot Ride for David Dawson at Crossover and recording 17.09 with a brilliant first split of 4.95 and Tyra Bale won the last in 17.17 for Mark Delbridge.

Review Meeting Friday 4th July

An above average crowd witnessed a good Friday twilight card of TAB greyhound racing, at Glenview Park, Traralgon.

A new track record was set for the stayers over the 730 metres by "Sonic Jet" in 43.67 - given there have been few races over that distance in the past few years, and the new track records were recently re-set - after the track was resurfaced from loam to sand.

Sonic Jet for Owner/Trainer Peter Reinders has now won 12 races from just 36 starts, with 8 placings.

Most impressive winner over the 513 metres was by the first starter, Smurf's Il Divo for the Nambrok husband/wife team of Tony and Carol Tabone.

Son of Elgrando - Bitter Pill flew the boxes, and won his maiden by over 9 lengths in a steady 30.20 - but he looks very promising.

A further stayers race on the card was a well deserved win for No Contract, prepared at Longwarry by Margaret Campbell and owned by Ray Coombs, stopping the clock at 43.85.

But the best time over the 513 metres went too Sheerer Matt who "clipped" his rivals to win a grade 5 by almost 8 lengths in 30.02 - following his maiden victory on the track 2 weeks ago.

Hard working judge at the Traralgon Club, Sandra Collins, with husband Tommy also keep fit by having a couple of greyhounds in the backyard of their Hazelwood property, and Uno Tiarna earnt her keep by winning the Elgrando at Stud mixed in 30.30 and we didn't need a print from the Judge!

Preview Meeting Friday 4th July

For the first time in many years, Traralgon Greyhound Club will host 2 special Stayers races over the 730 metres, at Friday's TAB Twilight Meeting.

One of those races also carries the $800 GOBIS Bonus - that could go the way of Awesimus Maximus, For Nyora Trainer Phyllis Brown.

Best each way value could be Recommend Red in race 4 for Denison mentor, Corey Siekman.

Daily Double Selections - 2 and 6 with 4 and 8.

Review Meeting Friday 20th June

The crowd at Friday's Traralgon Greyhound meeting was swelled by "Mobile" Vistors!

Many retired couples now travel the country in their mobile homes and selected the Glenview Park Complex on Friday for an overnight stop.  Most enjoyed the greyhound racing and dinner in the oncourse restraunt- before steeting off again on Saturday morning.

Ripplebrook Owner/Trainer/Breeder, John McIntyre led in a well deserved double with litter brothers, Sheerer Matt and Ripplebrook Lad.  Sons of Brad's Awesome (also raced by John) - Kerry Louise won maiden events over 513 and 658 metres respectively.

John and Dorothy McIntyre also donated a greyhound to the Make a Wish Foundation Gippsland and Wishes Come True, trained at Toongabbie by Pam Tabone has earnt thousands of dollars for the cause and the wishes of young children with a life threatening illness.

The Traralgon track was harrowed on the Tuesday and still rated good, although times were well below average.

Example was the fast class Free For All over 513 metres where the smart, Chinese Princess defeated a good field by leading most of the way and recording a slow 30.75.

Top of the Hill syn. werent complaining, or moe trainer, Mark Busuttil who puts the polish on the daughter of Boothy's Magic - City Lotto.

Best run over the short (298 metres) was recorded by Jet Ya Star who started at double figure odds and recorded 17.11 in winning by 3 lengths, with a good first split of 4.97.

Daughter of Collision - Brandeen Misty has now won 7 from just 20 starts, with 8 placings for owner, Robert Salisbury, and Darnum Trainer, Louise Allen. 

  Meeting - Friday 20th June Preview

Friday Twilight racing comes to Glenview Park, Traralgon this week.

The 10 event TAB greyhound card features a top Free For All and grade 5 Heats, over the 513 metres.

Best bet of the day should be Pure Grunt - going for 3 on the trot in Race 7, for Koo-Wee-Rup trainer, Clint Fulton.

Morgan Bros. can win the Fast Class event, prepared at Sale by Carolyne Jones.

Value Bet is - Who's Ya Mama from the red trap in race 9, for Tanjil South mentor, Peter Giles.

Daily Double selections - 3 and 6 with 2 and 3.

Meeting Friday 13th Review

Friday the 13th  was a wet and windy TAB Twilight Meeting, for the Traralgon Greyhound Club.

Heavy rain prior to the fixture and during the card led to the track being downgraded from good to slow after Race 3.

GOBIS Maiden Final was a great finish with the favourite Elite Ethel just lasting to defeat the fast finishing, Zamira by a head, with Secrets of Gold in third place.

Winner trained at Rosedale by Lisa Evans clocked 30.39 on the slow track for the 513 metres and was GOBIS qualified for the Extra $800.

Ambit Claim for the president of Traralgon Greyhound Club, Ray Cunneen recorded 30.36 in winning Race 6.  Son of Hallucinate - Stargari Heiress for the Panels syn. kicked strondly in the straight to stave off the favourite, Shamrock Gift and Arvo's Falcon.

Kingston Avenue recording best of the Day 30.35 - scoring an easy win in the Free For All, For Traralgon O.T. Roy Coleman.  Greyhound has now won 5 races from just the 10 starts.

Best run over the short - 298 metres was recorded in the last by Uncle Osca of 17.15 winning by 4 lengths for Jan and Noel Zammit at Hazelwood North.

Stayers feature was a win for the favourite Shanlyn Supreme for Garfield mentor, Lyn Larsen, coming again to defeat Star Class who raced wide and Culloo Lankan, in 29.84 for the 658 Metres. And again - winner qualified for the GOBIS Bonus that was on offer.

Lady Levo showed good speed to lead all the way in the Maiden to defeat Arvo's Commando and Elorina, much to the delight of owner, Clint Leviston and Heyfield trainer, Wendy Fasoli.

Blushing also winning her Maiden by over 3 lengths for Nilma North Owner/Trainer, Norm Rilen.

 

Meeting Friday 13th June Preview

Friday the 13th could prove lucky for patrons, at what's a top TAB twilight Traralgon Greyhound Meeting.

First of 10 races to fly from 3.52pm with a  Free For All sprint, and Stayers feature heading the bill.

Thane can win the Fast Class event, for Yarram trainer, Brian Alford, whilst Shanlyn Supreme is fancied to win the GOBIS Stayers race, prepared at Garfield by Lynn Larsen.

Best Value is Zamira in race 3, for Tanjil South Mentor, Peter Giles.

Daily Double selections - 2 and 8 with 4 and 6.

Meeting - Friday Twilight - 6th June

Plenty of value for punter's, at Friday's Traralgon twilight greyhound meeting.

First of Ten to jump from 3.52pm and Smoking Fury could keep up the excellent record of Race one, Box one.

Hotline Maggee is due to break through in Race 3, prepared at Longwarry by Margaret Campbell.

Best Bet - Hero Girl in the first leg of the Quaddie, for Korumburra Trainer, Reg Boyce.

Daily Double Selections - 3 and 8 with 4 and 5.

Nambrok Greyhound Wins Traralgon Distance Championship 23rd May 2008

The Smurf's were on parade for the $5000 Traralgon Distance Championship - Highlight of Friday's TAB Twilight greyhound meeting in the Latrobe Valley.

Nambrok husband and wife team of Tony & Carol Tabone had 3 of the 7 runners in the rich feature, and it was Carol with Smurf's Betty who led nearly all the way to gain the winner's purse of $3,500 in easy fashion.

Shanlyn Supreme was runner-up, and their was a dead heat for third between the odds on favourite, Sky Hazard - who struck plenty of trouble, and Cheekstar.

Smurf Princess, and Smurf's Time Out for the Tabone's finishing toward the rear of the field - in a time of 39.43 for the 658 metres.  Smurf's Betty paying over $17 for a win on Supertab.

Sale trainer, Carolyne Jones landing a double for the meeting in the legs of the quaddie.  Morgan Bros. starting it off with a 7 length victory, in a brilliant 29.65 for the 513 metres.

And Make the Magic got up to score by a "Bee's Knee" in 29.93.

Rosedale owner trainer, Ray McMillian got a run as a reserve in the grade 5 with Madeisha, and scored a runaway all the way win by almost 6 lengths - in a time of 30.20.  Daughter of Typhoon Tide - Korina bred by the McMillan family.

Mustwin synd. did just that with El Waitress winning the Gobis Maiden Final. Using the red trap to her advantage, daughter of Elgrando -  Waiting List scored an impressive win by over 9 lengths in a time of 30.15.  Trained at Moe by Rachael Busuttil, winner was also GOBIS qualified and an extra $800 in prizemoney.

A strong win also by Hunted Down in the GOBIS grade 5 final.   Odds on favourite, Arvo's Falcon was clear in the straight, but could not withstand the finish of the winner, for Tooradin based, Stuart Mills.

$28,000 Quaddie at Traralgon Greyhounds.

Meeting - Friday Twilight 2nd May

There was one - perhaps two lucky punters after Friday's Traralgon Greyhound Meeting.  Those that selected the numbers - 5.1.2.2. in the 4 legs of the quadrella received over $28,000 for a dollar.

Stratford Trainer, Pamela Pitt produced Halipino Harry to win the first leg at $17.  Son of Regal Ricky - Kool Drop scored narrowly in 30.79 for the 513 metres - with rain falling during the meeting.

Smurf's Time Out continued the blow out winning the second leg for Nambrok based, Tony Tabone.

King Within delivered the knockout blow in the third leg - $31, and won in strong style for Phillis Brown at Loch, after having no luck on the tuesday night at Warragul.

A well backed runner won the final leg, but it was too late for most, Obscurity for Tanjil South's Peter Giles winning in 30.42.

And the best run of the day came in the last with the promising Black Eight winning by over 3 lengths in 30.29, for Toongabbie trainer, Pamela Tabone - making 2 wins from just the 3 starts.

ANZAC DAY AT TRARALGON GREYHOUNDS 25TH APRIL 2008

Anzac Day in the Latrobe Valley this Friday will wind up with a big 10 event twilight greyhound fixture at Glenview Park, Traralgon - to follow on from the Moe races.

Program starts from just before 4 o'clock with the main features - Let We Forget maiden final, and the Morwell RSL Feature for the Stayers.

Best bet on the card is Tulla in race 7.

Tanjil South Trainer, Peter Giles could provide the each way value with "Fight for It" - in race 2.

Daily Double Selections - 6 and 8 into 1 and 7.

Traralgon Puppy Classic Final 18th April 2008

$10,000 final of the Puppy Classic will highlight Friday's Traralgon greyhound twilight TAB Meeting.

Following last weeks heats - Pearcedale trainer and former Traralgon resident, Jason Thompson looks to have a stranglehold on the $7,000 winner purse, greyhound Lochinui breaking the Traralgon sand track record in his heat victory of 29.47, and drawing box 1 in the big final.

First of 10 races will jump from 3.54pm and the best way value - Toowoomba Banker in race 2, for Yarragon mentor, Scott Holmes.
